Glazing Options

Standard glazing

Energy glass is fitted as standard on Broxwood windows and doors. The glass is coated with a thin, invisible metal film that allows solar heat penetration but limits heat loss when the outside temperature is below that of the inside.

Glazing options

Additional glazing options are available on most of our windows and doors. It is also possible combine options to achieve multiple benefits.

Triple Glazing is available as a upgrade to many of Broxwood’s standard range 1.4 – 1.0 u-value windows and doors to provide some improved thermal insulation.  Triple glazing is standard on Broxwood 0.7-0.6 u-value windows.

Solar control glass reduces the effects of solar heating in south facing rooms by reducing the transmission of light and heat. To achieve this the glass is tinted. Various tints are available; the darker the tint the greater the effect.

Fire safety glass is often a requirement in public buildings. The integrity of fire resistant glass is measured in how long it will hold back flames and hot gases. The minimum ‘integrity’ time is 30 minutes. A second measurement is how well the insulation of the glass performs so that the temperature on the opposite side of the glass to the fire remains below specified levels. The minimum ‘insulation’ time is also 30 minutes.

Note: Fire rated glass must be installed into a fire rated frame.

Noise reduction glass is typically used to reduce traffic noise. Normal two-layer glass insulate 25 Rw + Ctr and the human ear will perceive approximately 8 dB improvement as a halving of the sound. Broxwood offer products with soundproofing, 30, 35, 37 and 39 decibels.

Safety glass is designed to protect against injury and forced entry. There are two types of safety glass: laminated glass, and tempered (toughened) glass.

Laminated glass is two sheets of glass bonded together in combination with a flexible plastic film. The glass will crack when it is overloaded, but splinters of glass remain held safely by the plastic film. Laminated glass also protects against UV radiation, and can halve the fading of interior materials.

Tempered glass can withstand 3.5 times greater loads than ordinary glass. When the tempered glass break it shatters into thousands of pieces which reduces the risk of injury.

Self cleaning glass is useful for hard to reach windows or if window cleaning just isn’t your thing. A coating on the glass loosens the dirt leaving leaving it to be washed away by rain.
Note
: Self cleaning glass looks slightly blue from the outside. It reacts adversely with silicone or oils containing silicone and can be damaged by careless handling.

Obscure glass is offered in various patterns and degrees of obscuring. Level 1 pattern is least obscuring, Level 5 is most obscuring.

Coloured Glass is available in a variety of forms. It can be a genuinely coloured glass, a clear glass with coloured foil on one side, coloured foil laminated between two or more sheets of clear glass, enamelled glass and glass coated with a guarantee against cracking and flaking.
